Munich Airport (MUC) is one of the busiest airports in the Munich Metropolitan region in Germany. The airport is located 28.5 km (17.7 mi) northeast of Munich near the town of Freising. It was first opened in 1992 and it is named after former Bavarian minister-president Franz Josef Strauss. Munich is a unique city of its own kind and boasts world-class museums and exquisite royal palaces. It is also a major center of attraction for visitors because of beer and its annual Oktoberfest celebration.
